“WHAT IS SAP?”: SAP SOLUTIONS

When I tell people about my major’s emphasis I usually get a blank stare followed by the question, what in the world is SAP? The simple answer that I usually respond with is, “SAP is business software.” However, if you’re familiar with the multinational software corporation, you know that SAP offers a wide variety of integrated business solutions to its many users. SAP (Systems, Applications & Products in Data Processing) is a leading German enterprise application provider that develops enterprise software to manage business operations and customer relations. Many large manufacturing corporations including, Gulfstream Aerospace, The Coca-Cola Company, and BMW, use SAP’s business solutions, which contribute to each organization’s competitive strategy.

One of the most popular products from SAP is their latest ERP System, SAP R/3. ERP stands for Enterprise Resource Planning System. They typically integrate business process data that involves product planning, inventory management, manufacturing, and shipping and payment.

SAP R/3 MODULES (MOSTLY USED):

  • Financials and Controlling (FICO)
  • Human Resources (HR)
  • Materials Management (MM)
  • Sales & Distribution (SD)
  • Production Planning (PP)

SAP also offers a variety of business analytics platforms. One of my favorites is SAP Lumira  (Predictive Analysis). SAP Predictive Analytics offers ways to manipulate raw data (from data warehouses, Excel Workbooks or Microsoft Access) on an integrated dashboard where users can create visualizations that brings data to life.

SAP Business Intelligence Tools

  • SAP Webi Rich Client

So now that you are more familiar with SAP, you want to know what kind of job opportunities are out there for SAP Specialists. There are literally hundreds of high paying positions across the globe for developers and users alike. However, most employers require certifications for higher leveled positions (SAP TERP10). Some opportunities include:

  • SAP ABAP developers
  • Business Process Analyst
  • Configuration Analyst
  • Technician
  • FICO Analyst
  • Business Intelligence Analyst
