After years of online events and virtual introductions, ERP College was thrilled to host its first on-site New Student Orientation on August 9, 2024. The theme was “Future Forward 2024,” the event marked a joyful return to in-person experiences and set an exciting tone for the year ahead. This orientation wasn’t just about meeting people; it was a full-day experience designed to help new students feel part of a community, meet future classmates, and start connecting with faculty and support staff.

In this blog to follow, you’ll get a glimpse into what made this orientation so special, from the warm welcome speeches to the insightful campus tour. If you’re an incoming student eager to know what to expect, you’re in the right place!

The Welcome Experience

ERP College kicked off the day with a memorable welcome, reflecting its commitment to inclusivity and community. Margarita Lo, one of the college’s leaders, opened the event with a heartfelt speech, setting a warm and encouraging tone. Following her welcome, Maryam Asghar led the Land Acknowledgement, paying respect to the traditional custodians of the land. This meaningful acknowledgment not only honored Indigenous heritage but also underscored the college’s dedication to building a diverse and respectful environment for everyone.

Afterward, Mariam Asghar introduced new students to ERP College’s rich history. Her presentation included an inspiring graduation video of the Class of 2024, celebrating their achievements and reminding incoming students of the legacy they are joining. The presentation also shared ERP’s mission and core values, which emphasize empowering students through quality education and meaningful support.

Meeting the Faculty and Exploring Programs

One of the most anticipated parts of Orientation for new students was the chance for new students to meet their instructors and learn more about the programs they’d be joining. Facilitated by Viddhi Chhabria and Roula Antar, this session introduced each faculty member and provided a detailed overview of ERP’s nine diverse programs. From Medical Office Administration to Business Analysis for Business Intelligence, students gained valuable insights into the academic paths available to them and the support they could expect throughout their studies.

Available Services and Support Systems

Beyond academics, ERP College prioritizes comprehensive support for students’ success both on campus and beyond. During the new student orientation event, Farid Sareer provided an in-depth overview of ERP’s key services, from Career Services to Learning Resources. He emphasized how programs with practicum components play a vital role in preparing students for the workforce by giving them real-world experience before graduation.

These resources aren’t just add-ons; they’re integral to a successful academic journey. Studies indicate that students who use campus programs, like career services and practicums, report higher success rates. By introducing these support systems early, ERP College sets students on a path to academic and professional growth from day one.

How Did Students Build Connections During Orientation?

A key highlight of ERP College’s New Student Orientation was the opportunity to meet new students to start building connections with their peers. A relaxed coffee break provided the perfect setting for students to mingle, share stories, and begin forming friendships that would support them throughout their college journey. This informal gathering was designed to help students feel comfortable with each other, making it easier to connect and exchange contact information in a low-pressure environment.

Social interactions like these are crucial for new students, especially after years of limited face-to-face interaction. Forming bonds early on can make a big difference in student life and build their support networks on campus.

What Did Students Experience on the Campus Tour?

The orientation wrapped up with guided campus tours, led by Helen Iovova and Amrah Nasir. This tour offered new students a comprehensive look at ERP College’s facilities, from academic spaces like classrooms to social areas designed for relaxation and study. Walking through these spaces helped students feel more comfortable navigating the campus services, turning it from an unfamiliar place into a new home base.

Adding a touch of fun, the tour included a stop for ERP swag. Students received college-branded gear, creating a sense of belonging and pride in being part of the ERP community. By the end of the tour, students had a better sense of where they’d spend their time, helping ease any nerves about starting college.

Conclusion

As ERP College welcomes its newest students, the success of this first on-site orientation for new students signals a promising year ahead. The experience goes beyond simply starting classes—it’s about fostering connections, understanding available resources, and building confidence within a supportive community. With in-person interactions and campus exploration back on the agenda, ERP College’s orientation for new students has set a solid foundation for their academic journeys.
